West Wimbledon

The site

We identified and bought a plot with a single detached house, with a view to making better use of the land.

Planning

We tested options with officers at pre-app before submitting a full planning application in 2020. The design had to deal with several constraints:

• Going from one house to three on the plot.
• Basements in an area the borough and local councillors see as sensitive to surface water flooding.
• An odd-shaped site.
• Four storeys on a street of mostly two-storey semi-detached villas.

The case officer changed twice during the application, but we kept a good relationship with the borough. Officers recommended approval to planning committee and full planning was granted in August 2021.

The result

Three townhouses, each over four storeys including a basement. The scheme is complete.
