Kew

The brief

A developer client appointed us as design and build main contractor in January 2024 to build five new family houses at the end of a tree-lined cul-de-sac in Kew. Planning was granted by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

The site held an old bungalow and a row of garages. We demolished them and started construction in April 2024.

The build

• Five modern executive houses in yellow stock brick, with frameless glass box windows.
• A basement under every house, dug up to 4m deep inside a piled wall with a reinforced concrete capping beam and lining walls.
• Light gauge steel frame above ground, which kept the programme moving on a tight site.
• Flat roofs with sedum green roofs.

Working with the neighbours

Access was very constrained: one narrow road in and out, shared with residents. Before we started, we set up a dedicated website for the scheme, haverfieldgardens.co.uk. It holds the Construction Management Plan, regular newsletters and a named contact, so neighbours always knew what was happening and who to call.

Where it is now

The houses are in the final finishing stage.
