Being based in the London Borough of Merton, we are delighted to support the Summer Reading Challenge in Merton Libraries, which encourages children to read six books or more during the summer holidays. We feel it is important to encourage children to enjoy reading more because it helps to develop their literacy skills. The Summer Reading Challenge is run by a national charity, the Reading Agency, for children aged between four and 11 and this year’s theme is Animal Agents. The Challenge begins on 8 July and runs until 9 September. It is free to take part and will be running in all seven of Merton’s award-winning libraries in Wimbledon, Mitcham, Raynes Park, Pollards Hill, West Barnes, Morden and Colliers Wood.
As well as the reward of a good read, every child who completes the Summer Reading Challenge will receive a medal and a certificate and have the chance to win one of these fantastic prizes:
- An Ipad
- A family ticket to Warner Bros. Studio Tour, The Making of Harry Potter
- Theatre tickets to Polka Theatre and New Wimbledon Theatre
- 1 month pass to Explore Learning
- Deen City Farm Owl experience
- Family swimming pass to Cannons Leisure Centre
- And many more.
Happy Reading!
